Identify Withdrawn Patches

  • This procedures describes how to locate WITHDRAWN patch requirements.
  • A valid "patchdiag.xref" file must exist in the q-Status/conf/ directory.
  • The Unix commands showrev -p or patchadd -p. are used to collect patch information.
  • The Sun "patchdiag.xref" is located in the q-Status/conf/ directory.

Step Action Description
1 In the "Basic" Icon set,
from Patches Icon
select Summary

In the "Basic" Icon set, from the Patches Icon, move the mouse cursor over the "Summary" text till it enlarges. Click the mouse. A server count processing confirm dialog window will be displayed.

Click "OK" will begin the processing. At the completing, the "PatchDiag Selection" Report page will be displayed.

  1. Rollover text in purple in any GUI Icon indicates a summary report will be generated.
  2. Processing time varies by the number of servers and installed patches.
  3. Defining a "Group" selection prior to clicking on Patches Icon till "Summary" will reduce the processing time.
2 Check for any WITHDRAWN patch
Check the "withdrawn patches:<count>" entry at the top of the page of the "PatchDiag Selection" Report right below the "XREF File Date:" to see is any of the patches installed with this set of servers have any WITHDRAWN patch requirements.

Note: "withdrawn patches: <count>" will only appear if a patch-revsion is installed on a server in the group which has a WITHDRAWN notice from the "patchdiag.xref" file.

It there is a "withdrawn patches: <count>", entires in this header, there will be an individual entry in the Patch Summary Table for each the server affected with a "withdawn:<count>" displayed under the Percent bar of Patches for that server.

From Patches Icon select

Move mouse over the Patches Icon till "patchdiag" title is enlarged, then click. The single host selection page will be displayed with a "PatchDiag Selection" Title.

Note: Rollover text in blue in any GUI Icon indicates a single server selection dialog for reporting.
2 Check for any WITHDRAWN patch
Check the first table in the "Current Patch Diagnostics Listing" Report to see is any of the patches installed on the server need to be WITHDRAWN.

If under the percent bargraph in, there appears in red the word "withdrawn:" with a count number, then the Patch Diagnostic Analysis has detected a WITHDRAWN patch requirement.

Check the "INSTALLED PATCHES" listing to locate the WITHDRAWN patch which will appears a bold text in RED.

Solutions to the removal of the patch may be as simple as moving to a later revision. A red hyperlink may be present to provide more detail of the patch update or replacement. Clicking the link will display more information on this update.

The Sun "patchdiag.xref" cross-reference files contains not only the current rev of a patch, but a listing of the same patch if a prior revision was WITHDRAWN. If a server has this prior WITHDRAWN version installed, q-Status™ Solaris Patch Diagnostic Listing will highlight in Bold red lettering the WITHDRAWN patch number and revision installed. WITHDRAWN patch versions should be removed, updated to the latest version or superseded. Leaving a WITHDRAWN patch on a system can cause issues.
