Displaying Sun Volume Manager (DiskSuite) Disk Layout


Description:
  • This procedures describes how to obtain and review Sun Volume Manager Layout information for single host.
Prerequisites:
  • None
Note:
  • q-Status™ Sun Volume Manager Layout information is collected using the Sun Volume Manager commands /usr/sbin/metastat and /usr/sbin/metastat -p.

Step Action Description
1 Select the Sun Volume Manager icon
in the "DiskVolume Manager(s)"
Icon set

Move mouse over the "Sun Volume Manager" icon in the "Disk Volume Manager(s)" icon set till the text is enlarges. Click the mouse. The single host selection page will be displayed with a "Sun Volume Manager Layout" Title.

Note: All in blue in any Icon text will generate a single host selection dialog.
2 Make a server selection

Navigate through the host selection page, filtering or ordering server selection till the proper Hostname appears. Move mouse over magifying icon () for that Hostname till it enlarges, then click. The "Sun Volume Layout Layout" report will be display.

The "Sun Volume Layout Layout" consist of a layout table and optionally a "Spare Set:" tables if spares are assigned.

The layout of the layout table consist of the following columns

  • Metadisk assignment
  • Size
  • Associated layout:
    • Type of RAID
    • Metadisk volumn assignment
    • Associated RAW Disk
  • Capacity bar graph if mounted
  • Capacity Percent if mounted
  • Mount Point if assigned
  • Status

The "Mounted", "Capacity" and percent columns are cross referenced to the df information. The percent bar graph representing capacity. It the bargraph is blue, the capacity used in under a threshold (default is 80%). If the percent exceeds the threshold, the bargraph will change to red. This threshold is set in the /conf/qStatus.conf file. This threshold value is shown as a header to the table (e.g. "Mounted Disk (Red Threshold = 80%)" ).

If a disk layout has been assigned as a soft partition, it will be identified as yellow table instead of a maroon.

Optional "Spare Set:" tables may appear is spare have been configure with Sun Volumn Manager.

The layout of the optional "Spare Set:" tables consist of the following columns

  • Physical Disk Device assigned as spare
  • Size
  • Status
3 Optionally click
Host:<hostname>
for raw disk data display.
Move mouse over the hostname of the server in the "Sun Volume Layout Layout". When highlighted, click mouse to display RAW /usr/sbin/metastat data collected by q-Status™.

This will display the "Display RAW vxprintht data" as a popup window. This file is generate from the Vertias command vxprint -ht.
